Supporting Research, Innovation and Societal Transformation
The Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) University Research Fund provides financial support for high-quality, innovative and impactful research undertaken by eligible University researchers.
The Fund seeks to strengthen MMUST’s research capacity, promote innovation, generate new knowledge and support research that addresses local, national, regional and global challenges.
Objectives
The University Research Fund aims to:
- Promote high-quality and innovative research.
- Support research addressing priority societal and development challenges.
- Encourage interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research.
- Strengthen research capacity and collaboration.
- Promote innovation, technology development and knowledge transfer.
- Increase research publications and other scholarly outputs.
- Enhance the impact and utilisation of research findings.

Eligibility
The Fund is open to eligible MMUST academic and research staff in accordance with the requirements of the specific funding call. Interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary and collaborative research proposals are encouraged where applicable.
Application Process
Researchers should:
1. Review the current Call for Proposals and funding guidelines.
2. Develop a proposal using the prescribed template.
3. Submit the proposal and required supporting documents before the stated deadline.
4. Undergo administrative screening and technical/peer review.
5. Successful applicants receive funding approval and commence implementation in accordance with the approved proposal and budget.
Expected Outputs
Funded research is expected to contribute to meaningful scholarly and societal outcomes, including journal publications, innovations, prototypes, patents, policy briefs, research reports, datasets, community interventions and other knowledge products, as appropriate.
Research Ethics and Compliance
All funded research must comply with applicable MMUST policies and relevant ethical, legal and regulatory requirements. Researchers are responsible for obtaining necessary approvals and ensuring responsible management of research data and intellectual property.
Monitoring and Reporting
Funded projects are subject to monitoring and evaluation. Principal Investigators are required to implement approved activities, utilise funds for authorised purposes and submit progress and final reports within the prescribed timelines.
